1 onion finely chopped
4 garlic cloves chopped
2 medium carrots
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 kg ground beef ( I used 1,5 Kg for more sauce )
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 cans chopped tomatoes (about 400 g each)
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp allspice berries
1 large bay leaf
salt and pepper to taste
500gr pasta of your choice ( I use Bucatini)
Cream cheese yogurt sauce:
220gr cream cheese
220gr Greek yogurt
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
Prepare meat sauce:
Preheat the oven to 200C
Fill a pot with water and salt and bring to boil. Add pasta and cook according to instructions. Drain and prepare to assemble.
In a medium sized mixing bowl, add cream cheese, parmesan cheese, and Greek yogurt and a dash of pepper. Mix well and set aside.
Once your meat sauce is cooked prepare to assemble.
Place 2-3 tablespoons of the meat sauce in a rectangular casserole dish of about 30×20 cm/12×8 inches, just enough sauce to thinly cover the bottom of the dish.
Make layers of pasta, meat sauce and yogurt sauce. Continue layering until all ingredients are finished. On the top add the mozzarella cheese, freshly ground pepper. Bake for about 30 minutes, until cheese has melted and golden.
